The Department of International Relations (IR) at Bilkent University invites applications for two open-rank positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) to begin in September 2026.

Position 1: Historical Approaches to IR

We seek scholars whose research connects historical analysis to broader debates in international relations. Candidates working in Historical International Relations, Historical Political Economy, and Comparative Historical Analysis, who employ rigorous analytical and evidence-based methods (quantitative or qualitative) are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to produce world-class scholarly output evidenced by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, and to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the department, including teaching the department’s compulsory historical survey courses “Diplomatic History” and “20th Century World Politics”. The normal teaching load is 2+2, after an initial course reduction for early career researchers.

Position 2: Open Specialization

The department welcomes applications from scholars working in any area of specialization within the field of international relations broadly defined. Candidates who can broaden our research and teaching portfolio and employ rigorous analytical and evidence-based methods (quantitative or qualitative) are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to produce world-class scholarly output evidenced by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, and to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the department. The normal teaching load is 2+2, after an initial course reduction for early career researchers.

Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, or a related academic discipline by the beginning of the appointment. The deadline for submission is December 15th, 2025.
