Biography:Onur Ä°ĹźĂ§i received his Ph.D. from Georgetown University (with distinction) and joined Bilkentâ€™s Department of International Relations in 2014. He specializes on the histories of Russia, Turkey and the lands that connect them.
Prior to his arrival at Bilkent, he was a Royden B. Davis Lecturer at Georgetown, where he taught surveys and seminars on World History and the Cold War in the Middle East. At Bilkent, he has had a similar teaching record, offering Diplomatic History and Turkish Foreign Policy at the undergraduate level and a doctoral colloquium on the international history of the Cold War.
He has published on various episodes of convergence and conflict in Russo-Ottoman and Soviet-Turkish relations from the late-imperial period to the early Cold War years. His current research looks at different regional settings, from the Black Sea to the Middle East, where Soviet-Turkish interactions played a crucial role. Dr. Ä°ĹźĂ§i is the Director of Bilkentâ€™s Center for Russian Studies.
